Winter on Kentucky Lake: Hunting & Prepping for Fish

Hello to all of our Kentucky Lake lovers and fishing friends ! Don, Eric, and myself hope each of you had a great holiday season and that 2016 will bring you great things. Each of us are doing well, and after finishing up the hunting season, we are getting the itch to wet a line. Today would not be one that I would want to be out on the water, as we have snow on the ground with more falling, and many area schools are closed. Since it is a little chilly outside, I thought it would be a good time to touch base with everyone.

I do not have any fishing news for you, as we have not been on the water chasing them yet. Some people have been fishing, however, on days that the weather has allowed like this past weekend. The extended forecast calls for a low of 17 degrees tonight and the temperatures to stay in the 30's and low 40's with a chance of more snow on Sunday. A warming trend will occur next week with temperatures getting back in the 50's next Tuesday. Typical Kentucky weather for this time of year. One day it is 60, and the next it is snowing.

As far as lake conditions go, heavy rains in the area last week created a jump in lake levels. Both lakes are 3 feet above winter pool, which is 354, and stained both in the main lake and the bays. Temperatures of each lake are registering 41 degrees recorded at both dams.

While we have not fished, we have been involved in the yearly ritual of collecting tree tops, making stake beds, and dropping the cover in the lake. This is hard work, but we enjoy watching Kahuna drive the boat and give orders to the grunt deck hands, which would be Eric and myself. All joking aside, we have a good time doing it and get a lot of satisfaction catching fish off of what we have created. I have included some pictures of brush we have collected and some of the tops we put in the lake yesterday. For you folks who like to hunt, I also added some pictures of the past hunting season.

In spite of the winter weather we are experiencing today, spring is right around the corner. Now is the time to give us a call and book your trip for the upcoming fishing season. Whether you fish or not, Moors Resort has a lot to offer. Be sure to check out the pictures on the web page of the construction that has been taking place this winter. We hope you will come visit us all at the Moors and treat yourself to the many things the resort and Kentucky Lake area have to offer. We all hope to see you soon!
