June Fishing on Kentucky Lake
Greetings, once again, to all of our Kentucky Lake and Moors Resort lovers. Don, Eric, and myself hope the month of June finds all of you doing well.
The next three days look to be in the mid 90's with mostly sunny conditions and 5 to 10 mph winds. The current elevation for Kentucky Lake is 358.88 today. The projection for tomorrow is 359.01. Barkley was listed as being at 359. Our recent fishing efforts have been aimed at trying to get some tugs on the lines of our customers. Most of that has centered around chasing the white and yellow bass. We have had some really nice catches, but when there is not much current being generated, it has been a struggle for me. Bass: We have not specifically fished for bass, but generally catch a few when looking for the other species. Last week, the FLW pros were here, and boy did they whack them. A big congratulations to three local anglers. Brandon Hunter finished second, Terry Bolton ninth, and Ramie Colson Jr. just missed the top 10 with an 11th place finish. It is always great to see our local anglers do well, especially on their home waters. These guys have a tough job, and they were not competing against any weak links. Add on the extra pressure of fishing your home waters and the expectations that come with that. These guys did a super job, and my hat is off to each of you! Bluegill: We have not fished for these guys lately but the last couple of time I did I had very little success. I did hear reports of some being caught during a recent may fly hatch. Catfish: I had a few trips where I caught them quite well on rocky banks under a float, but the last time I tried, I got blanked, which leads me to believe the spawn is over. We have caught several while fishing for whites and yellows on spinners and jigging spoons. I have hit some of our deep holes looking for them, but have struggled as of late. I don't know if it has to do with the lack current or I am just missing them.
Crappie: I actually had a trip for crappie on Monday, which was the first time I had seriously chased them for a while. The fish bit pretty good for a couple of hours, but when the sun got up and the breeze quit, so did they. Once again the quality was good, and we caught several non-keepers. All of our fish came on minnows fished on main lake brush 15 to 25 feet deep. I was encouraged by the early action and plan to try this some more to see if I can catch some again.
White and Yellow Bass: As I said earlier most of our fishing efforts have centered on these two species. Some days we have done really well, but I have struggled the last couple of times I have gone. When there is some current running, we tend to have our best luck. On days we have no current it has been a struggle. Most of our fish have come around the river channel on jigging spoons and rooster tail spinners.
We want to thank each of you that have visited the Moors this year and have fished with us. We always enjoy getting to see the people who we have fished with over the years and meeting new folks. We have met some wonderful people this year. If you have not visited Moors, now is the time to do so. Summer is almost here, so now is the time to come enjoy the resort, lake, and all the area has to offer. On Monday, we stopped to photograph an osprey sitting on its nest, and we saw an eagle. Whether you fish or not, take time to come visit, relax, and enjoy yourself. If you want to fish, give us a call or shoot us an email. We will always do our best to show you a good time and send you home with some fish!
