October Fishing Report
The lake conditions as of today are that Kentucky Lake is reported to be at 354.88 . The forecast is for the lake level to rise to 355.21 and 355.43 by Tuesday. Barkley Lake was recorded to be at 354.85 today at noon. Each lake is recording 75 degrees at each dam.
As I said, we are getting a much needed soaking rain today. After today, the weather looks like we will be having a return to some warmer temperatures. Temperatures are forecast to be in the low to mid 80's each day, except Wednesday which calls for partly cloudy and the mid 70's. The best chance for rain appears to be Tuesday with an 80 percent chance of A.M. thunderstorms. All week looks like we will be having winds that are very fishable with the biggest question mark being Sunday with a southwest 10-15 mph forecasted.
As far as fishing is concerned, things have been changing. Up until recently, we were still looking for the White and Yellow Bass exclusively. Areas we were targeting were the old river channel, islands, and mouths of major creeks. Most days, we were able to put together good catches on the Yellows, but the Whites were difficult for us to find in numbers. The last couple of trips I took, I stuck to our brushpiles and was able to catch some Crappie and found the Yellows to be in pretty good numbers. For what it is worth, I am really expecting for the fall Crappie fishing on our lakes to be good. We had a great spring and good numbers of fish in the lake. I released a lot of non keepers that should now be the legal size limit to keep.
For any of you folks out there that are interested in keeping up with our guide service, we now have a Facebook Page. The page you will want to visit is Big Kahuna's Fishing Guide Service, and you will see the website logo and a picture of the two of us together. We try to post pictures and reports of our most recent trips to give our followers more up to date information. We invite you to visit our page, like us, and share us.
For any of you that have not visited the Moors Resort and Kentucky Lake area, now is the time to do so. We should soon be getting some cooler temperatures, and hopefully the fall colors will turn on. There is still good boating weather to be had, just use caution navigating on the lower lake levels. The Land Between the Lakes area has a lot to offer in sightseeing, hiking, and scenery. We have also started seeing some eagles with regularity. Moors Resort has everything to offer for anyone that needs a place to stay while they visit and enjoy the area.
